It is produced by the strain of Semisynthetic third generation cephalosporin for injection. Cefotaxime is an antibiotic with broad spectrum activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Cefotaxime inhibits mucopeptide synthesis by binding to and inactivating penicillin binding proteins thereby interfering with the final transpeptidation step required for cross-linking of peptidoglycan units. It is used to treat joint infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, meningitis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, sepsis, gonorrhea, and cellulitis.
