Puromycin is a nucleoside (purine) antibiotic produced by Str. alboniger ATCC 12461 and ATCC 12462. It has broad-spectrum antibacterial effect, and its antibacterial effect on individual strains is weak. It has the effect of inhibiting HeLa cells, glial cells in chicken embryos, tumor cells, and breast cancer in mouse GH. It can inhibit the proliferation of vaccinia virus. It is effective against Trypanosoma horses, dysentery amoeba, and tapeworm infections in animals; it is also effective against Trypanosoma crux and Hymenoptera jiliensis.
